Roof valleys are one of the most vulnerable spots on any tile roof. They sit right where two roof slopes meet, which means all the water running off both sides funnels directly through that channel. When the underlayment underneath starts to break down or shift, you've got a fast track for water to get where it shouldn't.

Here's what we were working with - cracked, deteriorated underlayment that had seen better days. The old material wasn't moving water off the roof properly anymore. Left alone, that's the kind of thing that turns into a ceiling stain, then water-damaged framing, then a much bigger repair bill.

We pulled the tile, stripped out the damaged underlayment, and installed new material before setting a clean metal valley flashing down the center. That metal channel is the key - it gives water a defined, controlled path off the roof instead of letting it pool or seep under the tile edges. Every tile went back down on fresh underlayment with proper fastening throughout.

The finished valley runs clean from the ridge all the way down, with tile set evenly on both sides and the metal flashing sitting right where it needs to be. No gaps, no guesswork. This is the kind of roof repair that actually solves the problem at the source instead of just patching over it.

A lot of homeowners don't think about their roof until something goes wrong inside the house. By then, the damage has usually been building for a while. A quick look at the valley - and the underlayment underneath - can tell you a lot about where your roof actually stands.
